John Lennon’s Imagine, Pearl Harbor: Give Peace a Chance

John Lennon’s death was 20 years ago today already.

Yesterday was the WW II anniversary of the 1941 Pearl Harbor attack 59 years ago already.

I thought of trying to write what it feels like inside to think about John Lennon’s murder or the visions that flash through my mind of WW II and any other fighting and killing. I ache all over thinking about all this, still vividly remembering how shattered I felt and how shattered the world felt when John Lennon was shot and killed. Multiply that by all those who died in WW II. There really are no words that can fully express what it feels like or the horror of such tragedies.

Seeing how one person and one vote can truly make a difference in an election, this underlines to me that each of us truly has the ability to effect an outcome, that each of us really CAN do something to promote peace. We can begin with ourselves.

John Lennon’s music tells us best in so many of his lyrics and melodies. If we can imagine peace, kindness, and getting along, it can become reality. Below are the lyrics to just one of Lennon’s memorable songs about peace, love, and kindness. Here’s to you, John.

Imagine
by John Lennon [CD: John Lennon - Imagine]

Imagine there’s no heaven.
It’s easy if you try.
No hell below us,
above us only sky.
Imagine all the people
living for the day.
Aahhhh

Imagine there’s no countries.
It isn’t hard to do.
Nothing to kill or die for
and no religion too.
Imagine all the people
living life in peace.
Oohhh

You may say I’m a dreamer,
but I’m not the only one.
I hope someday you join us
and the world will be as one.

Imagine no possessions.
I wonder if you can.
No need for greed or hunger,
a brotherhood of man.
Imagine all the people
sharing all the world.

You may say I’m a dreamer,
but I’m not the only one.
I hope someday you join us
and the world will live as one.
