Blogathon: Blog For Charities Is On Today!

24-hour blogathonWith a goal of raising $10,000 for favorite charities, the 24-hour Blogathon is a heart-warming and fabulous way to use web logging technology and the Internet. 101 participants are blogging at least once every 30 minutes for 24 hours straight for their favorite charities beginning at noon PST today.

Looking through the list of charities, I suspect you’ll recognize most of them - Make A Wish Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, American Cancer Society, Canadian Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Society of Canada, Guide Dogs for the Blind, The Asthma Foundation, and many more.

It’s not too late to become a sponsor, either. You can donate a flat amount or at an hourly rate. Just pick someone to sponsor and fill out the short form. They operate on the honor system and ask you to honor your donation.

You can also surf through the participants' Web sites with their webring-like graphic links, going backward or forward or viewing the entire list. A fun adventure can be had to see how the participants are holding up and even watch some of them via their webcams if you wish.

Who’s behind the blogathon? Catherine Connor, of frykitty.com. Why is she doing this?

"About a year ago, I blogged for 24 hours straight. It was fun, but did little more than get attention. When I decided to do it again this year, I knew it had to mean something. So I’m blogging for a cause--and so are some other folks."

And, by the way, Brainstorms and Raves is proud to be a sponsor for the Blogathon, too. I chose Lynn Rockwell’s Lucid Dreaming and Other Musings. She has a webcam, so you can wave hello. Oh, well, maybe not, but perhaps she’ll wave at you.
