Archiving the Internet Stories About the Attacks

The Washington Post’s Leslie Walker wrote a story Thursday about researchers capturing web pages moments after the Sept. 11 attacks to capture the world’s response: Web-Page Collection Preserves The Online Response to Horror. The Library of Congress and the Internet Archive are working together on this ambitious endeavor, and what a valuable contribution to the world, too!

The researchers used special software to make copies of attack-related Web sites, storing thousands of pages off-line, including many that were changing so fast they would not be viewable by future generations unless someone grabbed them right away.
