Homepage Usability, Jakob Nielsen Flavor

Jakob Nielsen has a new top ten list, this time for homepage usability. Some of these points may seem obvious, but we also continue to see so many sites lacking in good usability. Without a solid user-friendly approach, users visiting the site may get lost, may not return, may not understand what your site or company is about, and search engine listings typically won’t be as good either.

[book cover: Homepage Usability: 50 Websites Deconstructed] Nielsen’s Top Ten Guidelines for Homepage Usability can be a good checklist and reminder to make sure we’ve covered some of the basics. The above article’s list comes from his book, Homepage Usability: 50 Websites Deconstructed, which provides recommendations and 113 usability guidelines.
