WebsiteTips.com Relaunch!
07:01 PM - Mar 23, 2006
I’ve been buried the last five months quietly working hard on a major redesign and restructuring of WebsiteTips.com. I’m now excited to announce that the all new WebsiteTips.com is online!
Gone is the sadly old and tired design that I created too many years ago. In its place is an all new design using CSS positioning, all new colors, and a new logo, too. In addition, I completely overhauled and restructured the site’s information architecture.
Behind the scenes I also learned enough PHP to make the creation and overall site management an easy matter, too, using PHP includes with some conditions to create a good behind-the-scenes template system.
I also dug into Andy King’s Cover - Speed Up Your Site: Web Site Optimization, by Andy King book, Speed Up Your Site: Web Site Optimization, even further to add server-side compression to help reduce those file sizes even more.
People visit and return to WebsiteTips.com for the content, though, and all that I wrote above was created to support the content. While I eliminated some old content not worth keeping online, other existing content is updated and fresh. In addition, there’s a huge amount of new content throughout every single page and section. While I spent a lot of time on the design and development, I spent a lot more time on overhauling the content.
For all who aren’t familiar with WebsiteTips.com, it sprouted as a one-page resource of annotated links for my clients almost ten years ago now. WebsiteTips.com now has somewhere around 3,000 annotated links via the Web Resources section, a section of Articles, Tutorials, and Tips, and a new Recommended Books section.
You can read more about the design and development via WebsiteTips.com’s Colophon and more about the reasons it exists and its history via the About WebsiteTips.com page and what I have in common with Sherlock Holmes (no, not the hat or the trench coat!).
Besides just letting you all know about the new and improved site, I’d also greatly appreciate feedback about it - what you think of the new look, the information architecture, if you like the content, and anything else - I want to continue to make improvements, and I need to hear from people who visit the site. You can send me feedback directly through WebsiteTips.com’s Contact section, and you’re welcome to leave comments here at this post if you wish, but I’m not sure how long I’ll leave my comments open due to the darn spammers.
