Easy and Helpful Accessibility Tips

WebReview’s new article, Web Accessibility: HTML 4.0 (Part I), by Michael G. Paciello, gives some terrific HTML tag ideas to remove roadblocks for accessibility. Another excerpt from Paciello’s book, "Web accessibility for People with Disabilities," this short tutorial shows us (and reminds us) how simple it is to remember to include a few snippets of HTML that will make a difference.

Of course the ALT attribute is included, but do you know about some of these?

  • LONGDESC
  • ABBR
  • ACRONYM
  • LANG

In about 3 minutes you can see how and where to include these in your authoring arsenal.

The tutorial also includes some workarounds since they’re not all supported equally well among browsers (some aren’t supported at all by any major browsers), so the tips are especially helpful in that regard.
