New Interview About Web Standards, Life, Technology, and More

I've been interviewed again, this time by zlog's very kind Ronan: Interview #5 - Shirley Kaiser. It was a lot of fun, and we covered quite a range of topics, mostly around web standards, but we also discussed my nutso passion for technology, my kids, and assorted other things.

I've always been passionate about standards, and this new interview explains at least some of the reasons why I feel so strongly about their importance, in addition to a bit of history behind how we got to where we are today. (117 words, 7 links)

Saturday/Sunday Sounds #1: Childhood Dreams and Finding Your Way Back

When I was in junior high many of us had big dreams and high hopes of what we wanted to be when we grew up. Craig often had his guitar with him, and while I was amazed watching his prodigy-level skills at that age, most of all I loved listening to the heartfelt feeling behind his growing technical dazzle. I wasn't surprised when Craig told me that he'd be a famous rock star someday. Between his amazing talent, passion for music, good looks, and sparkling personality, I knew he could make those dreams come true. Craig moved away to...
Friday Feast #31: Fostering Creativity, Standards, Independent Projects

The past few weeks while I've been on a break I've been thinking about goals and possibilities for the coming year. Creativity is a key ingredient in my life, so part of my recent exploration led me to review my bookmarks and find new resources related to creativity, goals, conceptualizing, and related. It's been a fascinating adventure, so today's Friday Feast is dedicated to creativity. (1549 words, 33 links, 3 images)

MusicXML: Music Notation Interchange for the Internet

As a musician and web designer/developer, I've been especially interested in the development of universal standards for music notation that can be easily shared or exchanged via the Internet. I've watched several approaches come and go, but MusicXML has become the most successful standard for Western music notation interchange since MIDI. Although in development quite some time before releasing, MusicXML's beta version has only been available for seven short months, since October, 2001, so this is quite an impressive start.
Music and Web Design

What do music and web design have in common? I've noticed that many of us in the web design and development community are talented musicians, too. So I started an annotated listing as part of a new project of linking to independent musicians to help spread the word. I'm not making any promises, but that's exactly how WebsiteTips.com got started long ago. By the way, I welcome and invite submissions, too. The best for me is to submit them via the submission form at my music site so they'll be email filtered properly, but I appreciate them any way... (182 words, 5 links)
